John Henry Parker

Writer. Author. Self-Leadership Advisor.

Hello, and welcome, here is a little about myself:

I have been in the field of personal, professional, transformation, and leadership development for over 30 years. In the beginning stage of my career in the early and mid-90s, I was fortunate to have worked with and for many best-selling authors and thought leaders, such as Anthony Robbins, Tom Hopkins, and Jim Rohn. The benefit I received was the opportunity to meet and work with countless leaders within client companies from every industry imaginable. I was fortunate to see and experience examples of highly effective leaders and their thriving teams and cultures as well as poorly executed and inexperienced leaders and how their people and cultures suffered because of this.

Over time, I developed a healthy and realistic perspective: Every culture is a direct reflection of its leader, and every department, or office is a sub-culture, which is a direct reflection of whoever is appointed as leader.

From these formative years, to better understand myself and others, especially the leaders I worked with, I entered the behavioral assessment analysis field and have since delivered and facilitated tens of thousands of behavioral assessments both one-on-one and to small and large audiences within a wide spectrum of industries.

The magic is in the magician, not in the wand.

There is an ocean of highly competent consultants and coaches who are well-versed in the use of validated assessments. Over my career, I have taken every form of survey, inventory, and assessment I could find and found each of them to be useful and revealing in their own way. However, the assessments typically revealed to me what I already knew about myself deep down, and far too many coaches I found were simply experts in interpreting the results but lacked the insights to help me with the deeper transformational growth I sought. Where I chose to focus my efforts and expertise is in the very prescriptive aspects of how these revealing assessments can tell me how to recognize when I am getting in my own way. But more importantly, what can I do about this and how can I adjust my mindset and behavior to generate different and desirable results.  By applying everything I have learned to myself, first, I can speak from experience about what I suggest and recommend for others.

Personal Transformation:

The area of this work that brings me the most fulfillment is working with executive development around transformational self-leadership, as well as being of support to founders, CEOs, and senior leaders who are entering the succession horizon of their professional lives.

Personal and Professional Transitions

Throughout our lives, we are either preparing for, going through, or coming out of some form of transition. Preparing for retirement and succession, I believe is about clearly understanding and defining nine essential dimensions of transformational self-leadership. We have led others, during our transition it is about leading ourselves and rediscovering what brings meaning and purpose to our lives.

My Passion for Writing and Publishing

In 2014, I began semi-retiring from corporate consulting to pursue my passions for nonfiction writing, publishing books, and producing/narrating audiobooks.

In 2017, I produced an ebook and narrated an audiobook for Veterans who are reluctant to seek help for their struggles to deal with Post Traumatic Stress and transition from military to civilian life.

Transitioning Veterans – How we get in our own way… And what to do about it.

In 2023, I published the book and audiobook Be The Dawn In The Darkness, The relentless pursuit of becoming who we are meant to be.

You can learn more about both books/audiobooks at harvestingwisdom.com. They are also available on Amazon, Audible, and most other online stores.

My Passion for Helping Veterans:

I am deeply committed to helping Veterans and their families as they transition from military to civilian life, which can last a lifetime.

Upon my son’s challenging return and transition from two deployments to Afghanistan, I began developing a peer mentoring transition program for Veterans. For over twenty years, this model has continued to be refined and improved and has been met with very high acceptance because of its practicality and relevance.

Unfortunately, my son ultimately did not survive his transition and passed due to a high-speed, adrenaline-seeking motorcycle accident. My audiobook, Transitioning Veterans, is dedicated to Danny.

I am a former Marine, the son of a Marine Combat Veteran of the Korean War, who was also an Air Force reconnaissance photographer and Combat Veteran of Vietnam.
